Biography

Danielle Kubasko Sullivan, Associate Professor of English, joined Bemidji State University in 2022 and serves as BSU’s English education program coordinator. She advises and supports English education majors from their first entry at BSU through student teaching and job searches; is a co-advisor of Untiled, a student book club at BSU; and serves on the state board of Minnesota Council of Teachers of English as the Intellectual Freedom Chair.

Danielle teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in English pedagogy, composition, writing, and literature. She has over 25 years of experience teaching English at the secondary and college levels in Wisconsin, Alaska, Montana, Tennessee, Colorado, New Mexico, and Minnesota, most of which has taken place in or near Native American communities, and she is grateful for thefriendship, guidance, and inclusivity she experienced in these settings. Danielle is passionate about educational equity and prepares teachers to deliver meaningful pedagogical experiences and curricula that resonate with diverse students.

Danielle’s areas of research focus on culturally sustaining/revitalizing, trauma-informed English language arts pedagogy. Her most recent publications have appeared in Teaching English in the Two-Year College; Journal of Access, Retention, and Inclusion in Higher Education; Community Literacy Journal; and Community College Review.

When Danielle is not on a school campus, you’ll likely find her outside. She loves hiking, biking, cross country skiing, and paddling with her canine companions, Daisy and Hero.
