Research Interests

Dr. Duke's research interests include digital rhetoric and culture, science fiction studies, Caribbean literature and postcolonialism, social media culture, fan studies, and spatial theory.

Recent Work

His academic work has appeared in Science Fiction Film and Television, Like Clockwork: Essays on Steampunk (University of Minnesota Press), Crimethink: Politics and Speculative Fiction. He has also presented at a variety of conferences including the International Conference on the Fantastic in the Arts (ICFA), the Eaton Science Fiction Conference, the South Atlantic Modern Language Association, the National and the Southwest Texas Popular Culture and American Culture Association Conference, and more. Most recently he presented on Tobias S. Buckell's climate change at ICFA's first virtual conference.

In addition to his academic work, he is a freelance editor at The Duke of Editing and is a host and producer on The Skiffy and Fanty Show, a four-time Hugo Award finalist podcast dedicated to examining the literary cinematic and cultural world of science fiction, fantasy, and horror. His podcast work has sent him around the world to participate in conventions, conduct interviews, and more.
