Biography

Jennifer Olson, soprano, holds her masters and doctorate degrees in voice from the University of Michigan and the University of Minnesota respectively. Performing and touring throughout the Midwest as a soloist and recitalist, she specializes in French repertoire, chamber music, and oratorio. In 2020, Jennifer started an online educational video series called BSU Sings! for middle and high school choral students that now reaches over 250 programs across 12 states with a viewership of over 20,000.

Some of her most notable performances include appearances as soprano soloist in the Oratorio Society of Minnesota’s 2015production of Honegger’sKing David, soprano soloist inHändel’sMessiahwith theOratorio Society of Minnesotaand additionally with theRochester Symphony Orchestra and Chorale (MN). She also appeared as the soprano soloist in the Minnesota premiere of Frank Ticheli’s Songs of Love andLife with the University of Minnesota’s Wind Ensemble and Craig Kirchhoff. She played the role of “Barbarina” inMozart’sLe Nozze di Figaroat the Bay View Music Festival and the role of “Tiny” in Benjamin Britten’sPaul Bunyanwith VocalEssence and Philip Brunelle. In 2016 she performed withthe Fargo-Moorhead Opera Company in therole of “Papagena”in Mozart’sThe Magic Flute.In July 2014 Jennifer competed as a National Semi-Finalist representing the North Central Region in the NATS Artist Award Competition in Boston. In 2016, Jennifer also won an Individual Artist Grant from the Region 2 Arts Council to record a CD of rarely performed South American Art Song Cycles with Dr. Ana María Otamendi (Louisiana State University). She performed as a soloist for the 2018 US premiere of Patrick Hawes “The Great War Symphony” at Northrop Auditorium in Minneapolis with the Oratorio Society of Minnesota.
