The Department of Public Safety publishes the Annual Security & Fire Safety Report each year. The report is distributed to all potential students and employees. All current students, faculty and staff are emailed information that briefly describes the content of the report and also the exact Internet address where it can be found. By clicking the links below you can download complete copies of the Annual Security & Fire Safety Report for both Bemidji State University and Northwest Technical College.

If you experience problems please contact the Department of Public Safety, lower Walnut Hall (218) 755-3888. The report contains information regarding campus safety and security as required by the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act. Learn more about the Cleary Act.

Pursuant to the Act, the Department of Public Safety monitors criminal activity and publishes this report containing a three-year statistical history of select crimes or incidents that occur. The statistics are gathered from four specific geographic areas:

  1. campus including residence halls
  2. residence halls
  3. public property that is adjacent to campus
  4. non-campus university property or university sanctioned buildings or property.

In case of an emergency (either on- or off-campus) that is deemed an ongoing threat, the Director of Public Safety will issue a university-wide warning via the Bemidji State or NTC websites, email and any other means deemed appropriate.

Depending on the particular circumstances of the crime or threat, additional notices may be posted in each residential facility and within academic buildings.

Every attempt is made to distribute the alert as soon as all pertinent information is available.

The decision to issue a crime alert shall be decided on a case-by-case basis in light of all the facts surrounding a crime, including factors such as the nature of the crime, the continuing danger to the campus community, and the possible risk of compromising law enforcement efforts.

Anyone with information warranting a timely warning should report the circumstances to the Department of Public Safety by telephone (218) 755-3888 or in person at the Public Safety office located in the basement of Walnut Hall.
